Emergencies
You are always more than welcome to see us sooner than your scheduled appointment if you are experiencing any type of discomfort. Orthodontics should be a pleasant experience and we certainly don't want you to suffer!
- Lip or Cheek Irritation: If braces cause too much irritation to the cheeks or lips, apply wax to soften the edges of the brackets. Do your best to
remove it before eating—you don’t want to be eating a bunch of wax! - Broken brackets: If a bracket has come off and you are not in any pain or discomfort, it can wait until your next appointment to be repaired.
- Wire Movement: As your teeth move, wire may start to extend towards the back of your mouth and poke your cheeks. If this happens, call us right away and we’ll adjust it for you. To alleviate the discomfort in the mean time, try to apply wax to the end of the wire.
- Lost Colored Tie: Unless it is causing discomfort, a minor problem such as a lost colored tie can wait until the next scheduled appointment.

- Steel Tie Irritation: Should a steel tie untwist and poke the inside of your mouth, you can use something dull such as the eraser on the end of a pencil to push it back into place. Be careful, and if you are unsure, call us and we will take care of it for you.
Major trauma or other injuries to the head or face that require special attention should be directed to a general physician, or in extreme cases to the emergency room. We will continue treatment once the injury is healed and we are able to perform procedures comfortably.
In any case, Dr. Wall may be reached during non-office hours on his cell phone. Please call our office and you will be given his phone number via our voicemail recording.
