About Orthodontics
Dr. Wall offers only the most recent and excellent orthodontic care using the latest instruments, appliances, methods and technology. He and his staff provide customized treatment to satisfy the needs of each patient. Happy patients with healthy, beautiful smiles are our main goal!
Most orthodontic treatment begins between the ages of 9 and 14. However, the American Association of Orthodontics recommends a child's initial orthodontic examination take place no later than age 7. By this age, most children have a mix of baby and adult teeth. Although this may seem early, an orthodontist may be able to notice concerns such as jaw growth and emerging teeth while baby teeth are still present. This is important because most orthodontic problems are easier to correct earlier than later. Click on the image to the left to see and example of preventive treatment.
While a child's teeth appear to be straight, there could be problems that only an orthodontist can detect. These problems could benefit from early treatment. At the same time, an early check-up can also confirm that your child's teeth and bite are developing normally, which is reassuring.
It's never too late for orthodontic treatment! A healthy, beautiful smile is beneficial at any age. Teeth will look and feel better, and orthodontic treatment prevents future periodontal problems too!
About Braces
The use of stainless steel braces is the most accurate type of orthodontic treatment offered. Although they may seem unattractive, treatment at our office only lasts an average of 1 to 3 years, a minor and worthy amount of time to improve a smile that will last a lifetime! Besides, with stainless steel braces, you can choose new color ties at every appointment! Treatment times vary with factors such as the severity of the problem and patient cooperation.
**Check out some of Dr. Wall's patients, both children and adults, who have recently completed orthodontic treatment using stainless steel braces on our Recent Successes page.
CLARITY ™ SL BRACKETS by 3M Unitek - Dr. Wall also offers Clarity Brackets, a type of ceramic bracket that makes treatment less visible and is also self-ligating. This means that no colored elastic ties are required to hold the wire in place. Dr. Wall will let you know if you are a good candidate for treatment with ceramic brackets.
YES, YOU CAN CHEW GUM WITH BRACES, AND WE ENCOURAGE IT!
Braces can be uncomfortable at times, so Dr. Wall encourages his patients to chew sugarless gum to make teeth and gums less tender. Yes, gum chewing is allowed with braces! Similar to babies teething, chewing on things increases blood flow to soothe the discomfort. Any sugarless or sugarfree gum will do, and it also helps to clean teeth after a meal and freshen breath! Your teeth will not only feel better, but will move faster, too!
About Retainers
The last equally important phase of treatment is retention. Dr. Wall provides his patients with full-coverage, plastic retainers to wear only at night while sleeping. The retainers not only keep your teeth aligned, but they also protect you from grinding your teeth at night. Yes, everyone grinds their teeth a little while sleeping. Preserve your teeth and you'll keep that youthful look!
